Introduction March 11, 2006

Midlands Midrange Users Group (MMUG) was founded in 1989. MMUG is a users group dedicated to the education of our members and others in the management, development, and integration of IBM AS/400 and iSeries systems.  We are located in Omaha, Nebraska and our members are drawn from eastern Nebraska and western Iowa

As stated in the bylaws the general purpose of the group is to promote the free exchange of AS/400 (iSeries) information between members, IBM and other midrange vendors; also to facilitate and stimulate the timely interchange of AS/400 information.  Group meetings are not to be used as a forum for solicitations of personnel, or promotion of products or services.

The objectives of the organization:

How do we accomplish these objectives?

  • We have built a long-standing relationship with IBM and work very closely with them to bring in outstanding speakers, coordinate events and keep our members and  community current on the ever changing technologies of the midrange platform.
  • We have relied on local and national speakers to discuss technical topics of interest to our members.
  • We provide a forum through regular meetings to allow our members to meet and discuss issues of the day.
  • Goals and direction for 2006:

    • We believe strongly that this organization is the ideal vehicle for the free exchange of knowledge, ideas and information.   For this organization to be successful, we will need to expand our current membership base so that we can continue to provide the quality of speakers and events that our members have become accustom to.
    • We are in the process of updating the current website, updating links, navigation, appearance and overall content.
    • We want to hear what the community wants so we will be publishing an online survey for both members and non-members.   A great deal of the direction for 2006 and beyond will come out of the results of this survey.
    • We will bring back the newsletter and initially intend to publish it on a quarterly basis.
    • Much of our focus will be on providing information on modernization of applications, new technologies and capabilities of the iSeries system, new application development methodologies etc.
    • We will also focus on current topics that IT organizations are dealing with, such as security, disaster recovery and SOX to name a few.
    • Based on the outcome of the survey we may change the time and frequency of the member meetings.
    • We plan to pursue co-sponsorship of events with other users groups where topics would be applicable for both organizations.
